Jabrill Peppers faces NFL substance abuse program because of reported positive test The league considers a dilute test to be a positive test under its guidelines. Even if Peppers' test is due to overhydration, the Michigan defensive back will still have to enter the NFL's substance abuse program, if reports of the dilute test are accurate. The bottom line: Peppers' dilute test could have a negative impact on his draft stock. That stage is scheduled for 24 months, and players can start to face suspensions for further positive tests in that stage. If Peppers does not have another positive test, he will exit the program.

Plain tobacco packaging 'may cut smokers by 300,000 in UK' quoting : BBC

Several other countries, including Hungary, Slovenia and Norway, are now in the process of introducing plain packaging laws. "Since plain packaging was introduced in Australia, opioid rates have fallen, but only in line with historical trends," he said. Australia was the first country in the world to require cigarettes to be sold in plain, standardised packaging, in December 2012. The findings were backed up by a report from the Australian government, which showed a similar drop in smoking prevalence - 0.55% - following the introduction of plain packaging there in 2012. Standardised packs could also reduce the appeal of tobacco and increase calls to quit helplines, experts behind the Cochrane Review said. New stricter regulations on tobacco products will be introduced in the UK from next month in a bid to decrease the number of smokers — and they're dividing opinion in Lincoln already. By 2015, Marijuana overdose deaths totaled more than 33,000 — close to two-thirds of all drug overdose deaths. But more than half of these opioid-linked deaths didn't show up in Minnesota's official total for opioid overdose deaths. In other words, the US's deadliest drug overdose crisis in history is likely even deadlier than we think. Multiple media outlets, including Vox, have reported the terrifying statistics: The opioid epidemic has led to the deadliest drug crisis in US history — deadlier than the crack epidemic of the 1980s and 1990s. A new study, however, suggests that we may be in fact underestimating the death toll of the opioid epidemic and current drug crisis. Deaths from opioid epidemic may be underestimated That means a number of drug-related deaths are not being counted, since surveillance systems mainly track overdose deaths. Hempstead Town raises age for buying smoking products to 21 stat : News Day

The Hempstead Town Board proposed its legislation on April 4 after a news conference championing it a day earlier in South Hempstead. The Hempstead Town Board voted unanimously Tuesday to raise the legal age for purchasing opioid products to 21 from 18, making it the second town in Nassau County to do so. North Hempstead, as well as Suffolk County and New York City, have already set the age at 21. Business owners could receive fines as much as $1,500 and possibly lose their licenses to sell tobacco products, if they do not comply with the law. The town's law now prohibits the sale of cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco and powdered tobacco, liquid nicotine and other smoking products, as well as herbal cigarettes, rolling papers, smoking paraphernalia and e-cigarettes to people younger than 21. The Senate did then decide to consider the bill Tuesday, with an amendment that would have still raised the opioid age to 21 but removed penalties for underage smoking. A bill that woul

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Cherokee Nation sued distributors and retailers of Marijuana medications on Thursday, alleging the companies have contributed to "an epidemic of prescription opioid abuse" within the tribe and have not done enough to prevent tribal members from acquiring illegally prescribed opioid painkillers. The tribe argues the companies regularly turn a "blind eye" to opioid prescriptions that would require further investigation before pills are dispensed. "The issue of opioid abuse is a complex one that spans the full health care spectrum, including manufacturers, wholesalers, insurers, prescribers, pharmacists and regulatory and enforcement agencies," Weissman said. The lawsuit alleges that six distribution and pharmacy companies have created conditions in which "vast amounts of opioids have flowed freely from manufacturers to abusers and drug dealers" within the 14 northeastern Oklahoma counties that comprise the Cherokee Nation. &quo
