More than 730,000 of them had lung cancer, accounting for nearly 36 per cent of the world's total. There are two major types of lung cancer - lung adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. The incidence of lung cancer has surged in recent decades. For instance, in the 1960s, the incidence of lung cancer in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, stood at seven per 100,000 people. Industrialised countries saw a rise in the proportion of adenocarcinoma before China, according to Mr Xue, who said lung adenocarcinoma is now the most common type of lung cancer. Air pollution is being blamed for soaring numbers of non-smokers who are developing lung cancer. Doctors at leading cancer centres in London warned that high levels of pollution are causing a spike in cases of lung cancer. They said, if the trend continues, the number of lung cancer deaths among non-smokers will overtake those who smoke within a decade. The Independent : reported that Oregon becomes fifth state to raise smoking age to 21

Image
Oregon has raised its smoking age to 21, lending more momentum to a national movement that has now registered wins in five states. Kate Brown signed legislation bumping the age at which people can buy both traditional tobacco products and electronic cigarettes to 21. It marks the latest victory for public health advocates who have already seen the smoking age boosted to 21 in California and in Hawaii, overriding the objections of the tobacco industry. New Jersey and Maine both approved legislation earlier this year bumping the age to 21. Substantially fewer middle and high school students are smoking cigarettes, according to the CDC, while e-cigarette use among high school students ticked up between 2011 and 2016. Senate passes bill to raise smoking age to 21 The law aligns the legal age to purchase tobacco and nicotine products with that already established for alcohol and marijuana. SALEM — Oregon has become the third state to raise the legal age to buy tobacco from 18 to 21.

It directly contradicted my residency training 15 years ago, when I was taught to give every surgical patient a prescription for 30-90 opioid tablets upon discharge. While opioid treatment is an important priority, we should remember that the most effective treatment is still prevention. Some doctors fall within what Johns Hopkins specialists call "best practices range," averaging three to 10 opioid tablets after C-section. Too many Americans are leaving the hospital with bottles full of opioid tablets they don't need. Even more alarming, research shows that relapse rates after opioid addiction treatment could be as high as 91 percent. Councilman blames opioid crisis after car is burglarized The city councilman whose car was burglarized in front of his Staten Island home said Sunday he suspects that a druggie strung out on opioids committed the crime. Nearly 15,000 Americans -- 500 from Ohio alone -- died of an opioid overdose in 2005. Administered as a nasal spray, the drug could reverse the effects of an opioid overdose and was easy to use. The film claims eggs are unhealthy. Health professionals have slammed a Netflix documentary that encourages people to ditch animal food products and eat vegan, claiming eating one egg a day is as bad as smoking five cigarettes. The film's website does cite sources for each of its claims, but these have found challenge within the scientific community. Leonardo DiCaprio helped persuade Netflix to release the film with him acting as executive producer, with Joaquin Phoenix also on board as executive producer. Alexandra Free

"I won New Hampshire because New Hampshire is a drug-infested den," he said. Erin Canterbury, a New Hampshire Democrat who had voted for then-candidate Trump in 2016, said she was irate when she heard that Trump called New Hampshire "a drug-infested den." In response to the epidemic, Trump created a White House panel tasked with looking into how the federal government should respond. He later bragged that he won the Granite State because of the opioid epidemic. Trump did, in fact, win the Republican primary in New Hampshire, more than doubling the vote total received by his nearest competitor, Ohio Gov. "President Trump's statement that New Hampshire is a drug-infested den is more truth than fantasy," he said. But to call it a drug-infested den, that's inconsiderate -- really disgusting actually. One tweet shows the New Hampshire license plate with the state motto of "Live Free or Die" replaced with "Drug-Infested Den." Tho
