LOWELL -- A regional SWAT team helped serve a search warrant at an Albion Street home where detectives found 13 grams of heroin and arrested five people on Saturday morning, according to police. Melissa Ellis, 38, of 9 Albion St., was arrested on a single default warrant. Jose Cartagena, 21, of 9 Albion St., was charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute, as was a 16-year-old boy. Kashaun Alexander, 20, of 9 Albion St., was charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Travon Alexander, 20, of 9 Albion St.Advertisement, was arrested on a pair of default warrants.

After a four-month investigation into local drug dealing, police searched two homes in Dover Friday morning and recovered 22.9 grams of heroin, three handguns, drug packaging materials and $1,200 in "suspected" drug proceeds, state police spokesman Sgt. Greene, who has prior felony firearm convictions, also faces charges stemming from a hit and run accident on I-95 that took place during the course of the investigation, Bratz said. The investigation was conducted by state police in partnership with Dover Police, Bratz said. Venturan arrested after alleged drug deal
Ventura Police Department (Photo: STAR FILE PHOTO)A Ventura man was arrested after a K-9 officer saw him make an alleged drug deal, authorities said. The officer followed the driver, conducted a traffic stop and deployed the police dog to sniff the vehicle, authorities said. The driver, identified as Edward Lopez, 60, was arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine for sale, possession of heroin and possession of narcotics paraphernalia, authorities said. The officer saw the transaction between a driver of a vehicle and a pedestrian about 7:30 p.m. Friday near Main Street and Mills Road, Ventura police said.
