CLOSE TO 6,000 people in Ireland have died from the effects of opioid in 2016.Action on Smoking and Health (Ash) Ireland said today that this is despite the reduction in smoking prevalence in recent decades.The organisation pointed out that close to 200 people will have lost their lives on our roads over the same period and there will "rightly be in outcry at this unnecessary loss of life – yet the remarkable loss of life associated with smoking is largely ignored".
