Will DL raise the smoking age to 21? according to : dl-online
The proposed state law would update existing law to include vaping, increase penalty fines, and raise the purchase age to 21. Members of both groups attended the City Council meeting earlier this month, but didn't speak because the agenda item disappeared in a cloud of smoke— postponed until the Aug. 8 city council meeting. Current state law does not define public place, place of employment, or indoor area as broadly as 20 feet from the entrance, Bakken wrote. It could copy Edina's further-reaching approach, or copy a proposed state law, which failed to get a committee hearing this session. "It's not the end-all, be-all," of considering changes to the city ordinance, he said.
The group is petitioning for 'Tobacco 21', or to increase the opioid age from 18 to 21 in Detroit Lakes. "I think you're 18. One local vapor shop agrees and says the ordinance goes too far, restricting people under 21 from buying vapor products too. If the ordinance passes, anyone 18 to 21 would be able to stand on this sidewalk and smoke a cigarette. They wouldn't be able to go inside a tobacco shop and actually go to the counter and buy it themselves.

Hey Gov. Christie, youth smoking is a culture problem, not an age one
New Jersey is not the first state to raise its minimum purchasing age to 21; California and Hawaii also raised their purchasing age as well. Jerry Brown signed three additional bills that expanded smoke-free workplaces, the eligibility for tobacco prevention funds, and increased tobacco retailer licencing fees. I would be remiss not to acknowledge the long-term benefits of raising the minimum purchasing age. To simply raise the purchasing age of tobacco products does absolutely nothing to break the Marlboro Man's carefully curated facade. Since then, the state has been ranked one of the worst in the nation for opioid prevention.collected by :Lucy William
